Comparing Quotes From Conservatory Companies

Getting a new uPVC conservatory, orangery, timber conservatory, sunroom or garden room for your home is a major home improvement decision.  It's one that could add value to your home, so important that you choose the right company for your project. Using our free service should save both time and money in getting the right people in.

Choose 'conservatory companies' from the options on the form above, then type of conservatory as project type (e.g. Victorian, Edwardian, uPVC, timber, P shaped, orangeries, lean to, or even sunrooms, porches and garden rooms).  We match max 4 local service providers covering your area and you choose the best fit (no-obligation).

NB: Always remember to ensure quoting companies have references for past work, are fully qualified and accredited by FENSA (or equivalent) to ensure compliance with glazing regulations, when it comes to fitting conservatories.

Tips For Finding Reputable Conservatory Companies

Professional conservatory companies should be more than happy to come to your home to both measure the space you have available and give advice about what sort of conservatory would be most appropriate for your needs. They should not be overly pushy though – nobody likes being subjected to the hard sell, especially not in your own home. Professional companies will always put their quotes in writing either through the post or email, and if a company refuses to do this, it would be reasonable to have doubts about the way they do business. Similarly, any offers to do a cheap job “for cash” should be dismissed out of hand – not only is it against the law, but there is no paper trail, no proof of payment and no comeback for you should things go wrong.

The cheapest price you are quoted might not be the best deal, especially if the cheapest quote is provided by a company with varied reviews and who don’t appear to be acting overly professionally. Look at all the quotes you have been given, and judge them on factors such as the different types of conservatory on offer, how long the company expect the job to take, and their overall reputation. Confirm in writing to the company that you would like to take them up on their quote, and keep copies of all of correspondence with them. It is standard within the industry to pay around a 10% to 20% deposit when you accept the quote, but a reputable firm will never ask for full payment before work begins.

Good conservatory companies know that they trade on their reputation, and will employ workers who do what they can to keep disruption to a minimum and get the job done professionally. Once the job has been complete to your satisfaction, remember to give a review for other people who are thinking of having a conservatory built at their homes too.

Adding a conservatory to your home will both expand the living space you have available, and hopefully increase your property’s value too. Conservatories are not cheap though, and even the most basic lean-to conservatory will cost around £10,000 when you take into account the foundations, walls, windows and roof. When you are spending such a lot of money, it is really important to check that the company you are dealing with is reputable and trustworthy, and there are a few essential checks that everyone should do first.

Orangery Or Conservatory?

While conservatories tend to be glazed from top to bottom, orangeries always have a wall. Some configurations feature low walls all the way round, while some have a full height wall along one or more sides.

Another significant difference between an orangery and a conservatory is the fact that orangeries have inset roof lights (windows) whereas conservatories always have roof beams from the apex of the roof to the edge and are therefore fully-glazed.
